The MTC is Great!

July 2, 2012
Dear Family,

Thank you so much for you letters! They made me so happy! Ha Ha so yesterday my district leader came up to me when I was getting my dinner and showed me his pocket that was full of letters just for me, but he wasn't allowed to give them to me until after dinner. I couldn't wait to read them!

I'm glad you got the picture of me and my companions. The lady who sent you the email is in Sister Sanders' ward at home... I think. Sister Sanders is the one with the blonde hair and she is from Spanish Fork. Sister Markowitz is my other companion and she is from Hawaii. Pretty cool, huh? Her family made her a candybar lei and she was nice enough to share with us this afternoon. They both went to BYU before they decided to come on a mission. (I thought you boys would appreciate that.) Oh! And Sister Sanders' dad also comes from a family with 13 kids! Crazy!

The MTC is great! I can't believe I have been here for almost a week! I have learned so much. We have role play which is when one of our teachers pretends to be an investigator. It is super hard, but I feel like I learn the most from that. The second councilor in the branch presidency met with me and told me that he hopes that I have a low point while here at the MTC. I thought, "psh! Whatever! That's just not going to happen to me." and "why would you say that?! You want me to have a low point? That's not very nice." But then he said, "Because then you will come unto Christ."

Well, I have had low points. Yes, 'points' as in plural. But the low points come from not having the Spirit while teaching lessons. When the "investigator" doesn't seem to feel the Spirit during the lesson. Then we come out thinking, "what did we do wrong?" But then my companionship thinks of what we can do better, and then we work on it. I think that we all work really well together.

We have class for six hours every day in three hour blocks. The last half hour of class we teach an investigator. We learn new things in class every day, and my companions and I look at each other and say, "well, I wish we had known that before we taught our investigator last night." I know that the MTC is here for us so we can learn how to teach by the Spirit. I thought it would be easy, but it turns out there is a lot I still need to learn. Something we are constantly told is that we need to teach people, not lessons. Everyone is different. We need to figure out what the investigator needs and how we can apply the gospel to them.

Tyler, I hope your birthday was a lot of fun! And I totally know how you feel. Since my birthday is also the first of the month, when it lands on a Sunday it is also a fast Sunday. -Oh, and Sunday was great! Although, it just felt like any other day of the week.
Kyle, I love you and I hope you are having fun with baseball! You are super cool dude!
Ryan, that is awesome! I'm glad your team is doing so well! I hope you have a great Birthday on Sunday!
Spencer, I hope you had fun at scout camp!
Rachel, I love you and your letter made me laugh!
Mom, I love you so much! Thank you so much for all of the letters! And love! Did I mention that I love you?!
Dad, I like the sound of Sister Scott, too. Thank you for all you have done for me. Also, I'm thinking about keeping your white shirt to remind me of you throughout my mission! ...just kidding. I will get that back to you.

Ah! My time is almost up!
I love you all! Thank you so much for your love and prayers! Talk to you again next week!

Love,
Sister Janielle Lee Bug Scott

First 24 Hours in the MTC

July 28,2012
Dear Family,

I love you sooo much! And I miss you a ton! Thank you so much for the card! It is seriously so amazing here! The Spirit is so strong. We did a role play last night which was pretty intense, but I learned a lot from it and it made me excited to get out to Florida. One thing that was super neat was yesterday at the welcome meeting. We sang the Army of Helaman song only we changed the last words to "We are now the Lord's missionaries..." I have been looking forward to being a missionary for as long as I can remember and now I am one! :)

My first companion, Sister Nicoll, has already come and gone. She had to wait for visa stuff and now she is probably still on her way to the MTC in England. She is going to the Ireland/Scotland mission. Now I am part of a threesome with Sister Sanders and Sister Markowitz. We get along really well. We were laughing so hard (over something really dumb) I was crying. (Partially because we had also just gotten our mail, and you know...)

I hope you are all doing well. Kyle, I hope you are feeling better. I hope you are having fun with baseball, boys! And mom. :) Happy Birthday on Sunday, Tyler! I miss you little brother! Ryan, I miss your big hugs! It's a good thing I got a lot of them!

I have already felt such a change! Crazy, huh? It has been just over 24 hours! Thank you, Mom and Dad! You have prepared me so much for this. Thank you for everything! I love you so much!

Love,
Janielle

p.s. I will have more time to write you on P Day if you send me letters through Dear Elder. :)
p.p.s. Dad... I have your white shirt. I hope you haven't gone to Spencer looking for it. I will send it as soon as possible. :) I love you!
p.p.p.s. That's funny right there. :)
p.p.p.p.s. It's weird sleeping in a bed...
p.p.p.p.p.s. Mom, I love you!

Letter From the Editor

Hi! To the friends and family of Sister Janielle Scott, I'm her sister, Rachel, and I am keeping this blog for her while she serves a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Jacksonville, Florida. I might make up a few embarrassing stories to put in with her letters, but other than that and the occasional side commentary, all of the posts on this blog will be from her letters written to our family.

If you want to write Janielle a letter, you can find her MTC address as well as her Florida address on her Facebook page, or email me at rachelscott17@gmail.com and I will send it to you. You can also write her through her DearElder.com, which is a pretty good way to go because she usually gets your letter the same day you send it.

In Janielle's behalf, thank you for your love and support! I am so proud of my sister and I know she will be a great missionary.
