Someone's Birthday?

January 28, 2013
Dear Family,
Thank you so much for writing me! I also enjoyed getting your letter in the mail!
We have four investigators right now. We had to drop quite a few of them this week because they just weren't going anywhere. It was sad. But we will find more people to teach. There are so many people here who have so much potential! We talked to a kid in our ward at Stake Conference yesterday. We went and saw a family he told us about last week, and he said that each one of them told him individually how much they enjoyed our visit. That made us feel so good! When we visited them they asked us if we wanted to stay for dinner. How nice is that?! We are going to try and visit them again this week and take a thank you note with some brownies.
Sister Crowton had the wonderful opportunity of speaking at the adult session of Stake Conference. :) Her talk was so good! One thing that really stood out to me in her talk was the quote her mom had sent her from Sister Hinckley, "I want the Lord to know that I really lived." I have decided that I want the Lord to know that I really SERVED. I am going to serve with all my heart, might, mind, and strength even more this week.
I love you all so much! I am impressed by all that you do. You are all so diligent and hard working. "I love our family." (name that movie)
I hope you have a wonderful week!
Love,
Sister Scott
p.s. The "I'm a Child of God" Mormon Message is my absolute favorite!! :)

Side note: Janielle's birthday is  this Friday, February 1. Send her a card if you wish!

6 Months!

January 21, 2013

Dear Mom, Dad, Rachel, Spencer, Ryan, Kyle, and Tyler,
How are you all doing? Guess what? I have officially been on my mission for 6 months. -p.s. Rachel, happy 1/2 birthday! :)

This week was pretty exciting. Sister Delaplane and Sister Patton came for trade-offs again. This time I was with Sister Delaplane and we found two new investigators together. We found one who has a little 3 year old who has Autism, and I am excited to teach her. She has a lot of faith, and she said that she has picked up the Book of Mormon a few times since we first met her which was before Christmas and she was busy with the holidays. We are going to see her tomorrow before we go to St. Augustine to do trade-offs with the sisters there.

Sister Delaplane and I also went to visit someone who had been investigating the church about a year ago. He wasn't there, but we talked to his daughter who is a senior in high school and had stayed home that day because she hadn't been feeling well. We talked to her a little bit about the Book of Mormon and told her that we could come by Monday night when we would be in the area again. She asked us if we were doing anything that day. We said that we had a few appointments, but that we would actually be back in the area that night. She said, "Oh, I was hoping that you could just come in right now... do you have anywhere you need to be?" I think I just about fell over. We were about to go in for lunch. But that could definitely wait. :)
We went in and talked to her a little bit about her family. I could see her eyes glancing at my Book of Mormon every so ofton. So after a few minutes I told her that we wanted to share a little more about the Book of Mormon with her. She seemed pretty happy about that, which made me pretty happy as well. I asked if we could start with a prayer. We decided that I would say the opening and she would say the closing. As soon as I finished saying the opening prayer, she immediately started saying the "closing prayer." I thought it was so cute. It didn't occur to me that people pray differently... We then taught her about the Restoration and why we have the Book of Mormon. She had lots of questions and she was really engaged in the conversation. Sister Crowton added her on facebook and sent her a message. She responded and told us that she had been praying and researching and had lots of questions and she said that she is excited to see us on Tuesday.

I also got to go up to St. Mary's on trade-offs this week. Sister Sheffer says that she loves my family. :) I think that she even said that my family is the greatest! :) Thank you so much for loving and supporting her. It makes me so happy and proud to be a part of such a wonderful family. I love you too!

So while I was anticipating going up to St. Mary's I thought that it would be just so great if I could go see the Walters. But I don't really have any control over where we go when we go up there. They have a schedule already planned for us when we get there. Well, when we got there Sister Richards showed me our plans. And guess where we were going? ...to the Walters!!! I was so happy. They are doing great and they asked how you were doing. The message we shared was about the refiners' fire. When someone refines sliver, they put it in fire. They way they know when it is done is when they can see their reflection in the silver. We are like the silver, and Jesus Christ is the refiner. We are put into trials to refine us, and we are meant to reflect Jesus Christ.

Sister Richards also did an object lesson with a tea bag, and talked about how our faith will lift us higher.
Basically Sister Crowton and I didn't spend a lot of time as companions this week... and we probably won't get to this week either, because we are going to St. Augustine and St. Mary's again.

I hope that everything is going well! I continue to pray for Darren and Kimberly's family. Tell everyone that I love them! :)

I love all of you so much! Have a grrrreat week!

Love,
   Sister Scott

p.s. There is a cute little old lady in my ward who wanted me to tell my family hi for her. So, hi. :)
This lady also told Sister Crowton and I to tell people who wouldn't let us in that an old lady sent us and they should let us in.  ...We just might try that!

Happy New Year!!!

January 14, 2013

Dear Family,
While you are probably waking up to frost on your windshields, we are waking up to a light dust of yellow pollen ... I can't quite wrap my mind around the fact that it is January.
Guess what? We went to the dentist today. And I didn't have a single cavity! You know what that means don't you?? :)

There is a dentist in our stake who asked us when the last time was that we had our teeth cleaned, then he gave us his card and told us to set up an appointment. For free. Who knew that being a missionary came with benefits? :)
I was asked to give a training on charity at our District Meeting tomorrow. I am thinking about basing it off of President Monson's talk at the Priesthood session, See Them as They May Become." I am excited. And nervous.
Did I ever tell you that Sister Pearce is in the stake primary presidency as well?
Okay, I had another member moment this week. My friend, Sister Patton, and I were companions for a day, on trade-offs. We went to a less active member's house. As we were on the door step two friendly ladies walked by and waved at us. No one was home. We decided to knock on a few other doors. We started to walk away from one when those two ladies started walking back. I though, Heavenly Father must want us to talk to them, because He is giving me a second chance. Well, they went to their separate homes before we got to them. We caught one before she went inside and I decided to ask her if she knew her neighbor, the less active member, and if she knew of a time we could catch him. Then she started talking about the ward and primary. I was a little embarrassed. But I don't think she knew that I didn't know she was a member... Also, small world. It turns out that her and Sister Patton are both from the small town in Utah, Roy. I still feel like we were supposed to talk to her. Even if she didn't turn out to be that new golden investigator. I felt the Spirit so strong as we talked with her and shared a message with her.

I love getting your e-mails! They are a great kick off to my week! If you have any missionary moments, I would love to hear them! I love you all so much! And you are constantly in my prayers! Especially Darren and Kimberly and their family at this time.
I hope you have a super d duper week!

Love,

Sister Scott

p.s. the questionnaire will make it in the mail this week. I promise.
p.p.s. My birthday kind of snuck up on me. I will get back to you on that.
