Prayer Works

Feb 25, 2013

Dear Family,

I haven't had a chance to read your letter yet, but I quickly wanted to tell you some of the highlights of this past week. :)

Zone Conference filled my heart with so much joy this week. During the testimony portion I thought of 1 Nephi 8:12. Lehi has been describing the tree "whose fruit was desirable to make one happy." In verse 12 he says that he looked around for his family, because he wanted them to experience this same joy that he felt.

That is how I felt as all of the missionaries shared their testimonies. I felt so much joy and I want my investigators and... EVERYONE! to experience that same joy. The only way for them to be able to experience this much joy is through the Holy Ghost. And they must be baptized and confirmed by someone holding the Priesthood authority of God. This has motivated me even more the past couple days to share our message with everyone we come in contact with.

This week was fantastic! It was kind of a roller coaster. We experienced some terrible lows and then some terrific high points! (isn't it crazy how those two words only differ in three letters and yet are such complete opposites?) We had an investigator come to church last week! So great! Then we called her on Tuesday to set an appointment for Thursday. She said, "Sure! You just caught me in the middle of reading 'The Book'." Sister C and I were so excited! So happy! We both thought, "She's getting baptized!!" Then Thursday came... She texted us and said that her nieces were coming over and that she needed to clean her house and she would like to not reschedule for a couple weeks. I had kind of a bad feeling about that text, so we called her. We asked if she needed help cleaning, she said "no." Then we told her that we would still love to see her at church on Sunday. Her reply broke made me so sad. She said, "You know, I really enjoyed my time on Sunday. But I visited like you asked, and I'm not planning on making a habit of it. If I go to church, and I know I should, I'm going to go to the Catholic church." My heart was broken. We prayed to bring the Spirit and hope back. And as we were praying we got a text message from a girl in our ward who is less active, asking if we could come over the next day. Of course! We love it when people say that! Then she said that she had a friend that she wanted us to meet who is thinking about becoming Mormon!

Prayer works! And hope was back in our hearts. It was amazing to go from being so sad to so happy in a matter of seconds. And we still have hope for our other investigator. We are hoping that her heart will be softened if/when she comes to "song and testimony" fireside with Gladys Knight and the SUV choir.

I know that low points in our lives make us stronger. And Heavenly Father is aware of our needs and the Atonement of Jesus Christ enables us to go through our trials.

I hope you have a terrific week! I love you all so much!!!

Love,
Sister Scott
